Liverpool Refuses to Play Match Over Racism

Liverpool’s Under-19 team withdrew from their friendly match against Eintracht Frankfurt on Saturday. This decision was due to a racial incident.

According to The Sun, Liverpool’s U19 squad left the field. This happened after one of their players faced a racial slur.

The incident occurred when a Frankfurt player allegedly used a racist term. This prompted the Reds to stop the game in protest.

Eintracht Frankfurt’s sporting director, Timo Hardung, stated that the accused player was misunderstood.

“Our academy embodies the values of Eintracht Frankfurt,” said Hardung. “We are multicultural with clear principles. We live by these principles and demand them consistently.”

“There is no room for racism among us,” Hardung added. “But we still take such allegations very seriously.”

Hardung explained, “Our player indicated he used the word ‘digga’. This is a common slang in youth language. It means ‘brother’ or ‘brilliant’. It has no racist intent.”

“We can rule out racism. It’s a linguistic issue,” Hardung concluded. “We hope we’ve clarified the misunderstanding with the involved players and Liverpool officials.”

This incident shows the ongoing challenges in combating racism in football. Even at youth levels, cultural sensitivity and understanding in sports are crucial.
