Negotiating a record salary presents a challenge for Simeone and Atletico Madrid.

Diego Simeone, the coach of Atletico Madrid, is encountering difficulties in contract renewal negotiations with the Rojiblancos, as his current deal is set to expire this season.

As per the Spanish program "El Chirengeto," discussions between the two sides revolve around extending the contract until the summer of 2027, but discrepancies have arisen regarding Simeone's salary in the prospective agreement.

Previously the recipient of the world's highest coaching salary (18 million euros plus 2 million euros in variables), Atletico Madrid is inclined to significantly reduce this amount in the new contract. The club's offer stands at 12 million euros plus 2 million euros in potential bonuses, whereas Simeone is aiming to slightly elevate this proposal. Negotiations may steer toward a fixed salary of 13 million euros with 1 million euros in bonuses, or potentially settle on a fixed 14-million-euro salary.
Regarding the duration of the contract, Atletico Madrid is proposing a 3-year tenure, while Simeone is advocating for a two-year agreement with an optional third year.
